What is the ruling on a committed man who watches channels broadcasting acts of sorcery and charlatanism, disregards the sayings of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), becomes agitated when the Qur’an is recited, and frequently backbites people?

It is forbidden to intentionally watch programs of magic and charlatanism. Similarly, backbiting a Muslim and listening to backbiting are also forbidden, and all of these are major sins. As for not paying attention to the narrations of the Prophet (peace be upon him) and being annoyed by hearing the Quran, if one is not overcome by magic or similar, then that is a sign of great evil and corruption, and its perpetrator resembles one who does not believe in the Hereafter, due to the Almighty's saying: "And when you recite the Quran, We put between you and those who do not believe in the Hereafter a concealed veil. And We put over their hearts coverings, lest they understand it, and in their ears deafness. And when you mention your Lord in the Quran alone, they turn their backs in aversion." [Quran 17:45-46]. While Allah has expanded the breast of the believer for Islam, so he is upon a light from his Lord, and the skins of those who fear their Lord shiver when they hear the Quran, then their hearts soften to the remembrance of Allah. This is unlike the disbelievers who listen to idle talk. When Allah is mentioned, the hearts of the believers tremble, and when His verses are recited to them, it increases them in faith; they prostrate and humble themselves, unlike the disbelievers who do not care or act upon them. The Companions observed proper etiquette when hearing the Quran; their skins humbled and their hearts softened, and they did not force themselves to scream.
