The answer

It is forbidden to delve into the honor of Muslims and to seek out their faults, except for a weighty legitimate Islamic interest. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, warned those who do so of punishment. Among such narrations is what Abu Dawud reported: "When I was ascended, I passed by people who had copper claws with which they scratched their faces and chests. I asked, 'Who are these, O Gabriel?' He replied, 'These are those who consume people's flesh and delve into their honor.'" And whoever seeks out the faults of people, Allah will seek out his faults and expose him, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "O assembly of those who have embraced Islam with their tongues but faith has not reached their hearts, do not harm Muslims, nor shame them, nor seek out their faults. For whoever seeks out the fault of his Muslim brother, Allah will seek out his fault, and whoever Allah seeks out his fault, He will expose him even if he is in the privacy of his home." Backbiting is your mentioning your brother with what he dislikes. If what you say is true about him, then you have backbitten him, and if what you say is not true about him, then you have slandered him. Exposing the injustice of oppressors and warning people of their evil is not among the forbidden forms of backbiting. A Muslim must avoid listening to idle talk and forbidden speech. Working in media programs is permissible if those in charge adhere to Islamic regulations.
