About elfatwa
elfatwa answers one question at a time — a sourced summary of a fatwa published on Ftawy, with the source one tap away.
What this is
elfatwa is a library of fatwas that have already been published on ftawy.com, made readable and findable in English.
195,634 answers are published here, all of them sourced from ftawy.com. Each one has its own page, its own web address, and a link to the full original.
It is free to read. There are no ads and no third-party trackers, because no outside script is allowed to run on the site.
Who it is for
Someone with a real question and little time. Think of a person in an airport at two in the morning, reading in a second language. They need one clear thing they can act on.
So the answer comes first, the evidence second, and the source is always named.
What this is not
Not a fatwa council. elfatwa issues no rulings. Every ruling on the site was issued elsewhere, by the source, and we say who.
Not a scholar's desk. No scholar writes the summaries here. We never present one as if a scholar had.
Not a substitute for asking. A published answer speaks to the question it was asked. Your own situation may differ, and a summary cannot know that.
Not a search engine over the whole internet. One source, one link out, nothing else.
Languages
English is the main language and sits at the root of the site. Other languages live under their own prefix, and a page exists in a language only when that language's content exists. We do not machine-fill a language to look complete.
How to read a page
Every answer names its source before you read it, and carries the same line at the bottom:
Summarized from the full answer at Ftawy · reviewed {date}
If the summary and the full answer ever disagree, the full answer wins. Tell us, and we will fix the page and log it.
More on the method is in Methodology. More on the source is in Sources. Mistakes we have fixed are in Corrections.
