Is a single sacrifice sufficient for me and my brother to assume ihram for Umrah from home, or is a sacrifice required for each of us for each Umrah? And what is the value of the sacrifice, and is it permissible to give it to the poor outside Mecca?

The people of Makkah and those under their ruling, if they intend to perform 'Umrah, must enter into a state of ihram from outside the Haram boundaries, such as from Tan'im. If they enter into ihram from within the Haram, they are required to offer a dam (a sheep) to be slaughtered in Makkah and distributed among the poor of the Haram. This is because they have neglected an obligation of ihram. If this mistake is repeated in more than one 'Umrah, a dam is obligatory for each 'Umrah. It is not permissible to pay the value of the dam in cash; rather, it must be slaughtered in the Haram. If it is difficult to find the poor, charitable organizations in Makkah can be appointed to carry this out.
