Is it permissible for one who is not in a state of ablution to touch the Mus-haf with a transparent barrier?

Scholars have differed concerning the touching of the Mushaf by a person in a state of ritual impurity (muhdith) with an intermediary. The Hanafis and Hanbalis permit touching it with an intermediary, provided that it is separate from the Mushaf, something that would not be included in its sale. For them, there is no difference between a thick and a thin (transparent) intermediary. The Malikis and Shafi'is, however, prohibit touching it absolutely, even with an intermediary. In cases of necessity or need, such as for a female teacher or student, it is permissible for a menstruating woman to touch the Mushaf, and it is more cautious in this situation for the touching to be with an intermediary.
