Is it permissible to touch the cover of the Mushaf while I am in a state of impurity, and does the ruling differ if the cover is green?

The attached cover of the Mus'haf (Qur'an) shares the same ruling as the Mus'haf itself, so it is not permissible for one who is not in a state of ritual purity (wudu') to touch it. As for a detached cover (like a case), it is permissible to touch it without wudu'. The majority of jurists have prohibited touching the attached cover of the Mus'haf and its margins devoid of writing for one who is not ritually pure, while some Hanafis and Shafi'is have permitted it. Ibn Baz held the view that touching and moving the Mus'haf is not permissible except in a state of purity, unless it is done by means of an intermediary (like a wrapper or a case). As for reading without touching, there is no harm in it for one who is in a state of minor ritual impurity.
