Is it permissible for a non-veiled woman to travel to perform Umrah?

The statement that an unveiled woman is prohibited from going for Umrah or Hajj is incorrect. Negligence in covering the face does not prevent one from performing the obligatory Umrah or a voluntary one. However, by doing so, she would have mixed a righteous deed with a bad one.

As for after entering the state of ihram, she is not permitted to cover her face except in the presence of non-mahram men. The covering should be something other than a niqab, and it is permissible for it to touch the face according to the most authoritative opinion. It is also permissible to cover the hands with something other than gloves. Wearing gloves is forbidden, based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "The woman in ihram should not wear a niqab nor gloves."
