Is covering a woman's face with the niqab — which she wears over the head covering for stability and uncovers in the Haram — considered among the prohibitions of Umrah?
The female in a state of who mistakenly covers her face with a niqab has erred, because the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade that, saying: "The woman in ihram should not wear the niqab nor gloves." If she passes by non- men, she should cover her face with something other than the niqab, such as lowering her khimar or jilbab. It was narrated from Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, that she said: "We were with the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, in a state of ihram, and when men approached us, one of us would lower her jilbab over her face, and when they moved away from us, we would uncover [our faces]." If the questioner was ignorant of the religious ruling, then no (expiation) is required of her.
