What should a woman do if the yellowish discharge continues after postpartum bleeding (nifas) and her previous menstruation was seven days? And should she wait seven days and then perform ghusl if the yellowish discharge continues?

Scholars differed regarding the maximum duration of nifas (definition) (postpartum bleeding). The majority opinion is that it is forty days. After this, the woman performs ghusl (definition) (ritual purification bath) and all rulings pertaining to ritually pure women apply to her. Any blood she sees after the forty days is considered istihada (non-menstrual vaginal bleeding), unless it coincides with her regular menstrual period, in which case it is considered menses. Some scholars, however, held the view that the maximum duration of nifas is sixty days. According to this opinion, all blood the woman sees is considered nifas as long as it does not exceed sixty days.
