Does the Hadith about those who are estranged include cutting ties with the husband's nephews who wronged and boycotted him, and refused to apologize or reconcile, despite his previous kindness towards them and his participation in their upbringing?

The intended meaning of "animosity" (ash-shahna') in the Hadith about the middle of Sha'ban is hatred for worldly reasons. If the questioner harbors hatred towards her husband's nephews for a worldly matter, then she is indeed in a state of animosity, which would prevent her from receiving special forgiveness. However, if her avoiding them is for the purpose of discipline and not for her own personal gain, then we hope that this will not prevent her from receiving forgiveness, as there is no necessary link between discipline and animosity. The husband's nephews are not maharim (unmarriageable kin) to the wife, so Islamic guidelines must be observed in their interaction. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, warned against the danger of in-laws (the husband's relatives) by saying: "The in-law is death."
