It is forbidden to have intercourse with one's wife during the daytime in Ramadan for anyone upon whom fasting is obligatory. The husband must make up the missed fast and offer expiation (emancipating a slave; if unable, then fasting two consecutive months; if unable, then feeding sixty poor people). The wife must make up the missed fast if she was aware, intentional, and acted of her own free will, and there is a difference of opinion regarding the obligation of expiation upon her. If someone who had intercourse during the daytime in Ramadan dies without having offered expiation, then the heirs must feed sixty poor people from his estate, if it exists, and it is recommended for them to do so if it does not exist. It is also recommended to seek forgiveness for him, and his guardian may fast two consecutive months on his behalf.
