What is the expiation required from one who has sexual intercourse with his wife during the daytime in Ramadan?

Whoever has intercourse with his spouse during the daytime in Ramadan must offer a specific expiation: freeing a believing slave. If he is unable to do so, then he must fast for two consecutive months. If he is unable to do that, then he must feed sixty poor people. This order is agreed upon by the majority of scholars, and their evidence is the hadith of Abu Hurairah in the Two Sahihs. A Muslim must preserve and protect his fast, for Ramadan holds great sanctity with Allah.
