What is the ruling on a husband having intercourse with his wife during the daytime in Ramadan and repeating that for several days while completing the fast, and is the expiation (kaffarah) binding on the husband alone or on both spouses together?

The questioner and his wife must repent to Allah Almighty for violating the sanctity of Ramadan by intentionally engaging in sexual intercourse, eating, and drinking. They must make up for the days during which intercourse occurred. The husband is required to offer expiation for each day he invalidated by intercourse, which is: freeing a slave; if he cannot find one, then fasting for two consecutive months; if he is unable to do so, then feeding sixty poor people. As for the wife, if she was coerced, there is no expiation upon her. However, if she was willing, there are two opinions among scholars regarding the obligation of expiation upon her.
