What is the ruling regarding a patient with AIDS or one afflicted with a chronic sexually transmitted disease as a result of engaging in vice, and did Allah preordain this for him in eternity?

All that befalls a person, whether good or evil, is by divine decree and predestination, which Allah's knowledge preceded, and the Pen inscribed in the Preserved Tablet, as Allah Almighty said: ﴿Say: "Nothing will befall us except what Allah has decreed for us"﴾ (At-Tawbah: 51), and His saying: ﴿No disaster strikes except by permission of Allah ﴾ (At-Taghabun: 11), and His saying: ﴿Indeed, We have created everything with [due] measure﴾ (Al-Qamar: 49). The Prophet (peace be upon him) clarified that the appearance of immoral acts is among the causes for the prevalence of diseases and epidemics, and that is a wisdom from Allah to be a reminder for the believers, a punishment for the criminals, an expiation for the sins of the transgressors, and a purification for the penitent.
