What is our duty toward our maternal uncle who decided to sever ties with us, even though we did not wrong him?
You must investigate the cause of the estrangement, and if you are blameless, you must exercise patience and kindness. Often, such situations are temporary and arise from transient anger. If the estrangement prolongs due to resentment, the estranged party must be reminded of the rights of kinship and the threat against those who sever ties of kinship. Efforts should be made to restore usurped rights and apologize to the wronged, for Allah Almighty says: "So make reconciliation between yourselves," and He says: "No good is there in much of their private conversation, except for whoever enjoins charity or a known good or reconciliation between people. And whoever does that, seeking the approval of Allah, then We will give him a great reward." It may be better to delay intervention until emotions subside.
