Can the devils among the jinn plan and learn from mistakes to tempt humans away from obeying Allah, and do they possess independent thought and free will?

Devils are charged with the worship of Allah, and they possess intellects with which they think and plot to mislead the children of Adam due to their inherent animosity. Allah the Almighty said: "Indeed, Satan is an enemy to you; so take him as an enemy." And the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, informed that Iblis dispatches his troops to misguide people, and the greatest among them in temptation is he who causes separation between a man and his wife. Iblis then draws him near and says: "Yes, you are [the best]."
