What is the legal ruling regarding cosmetic surgery for a prominent nose with a noticeable congenital protrusion, which causes psychological distress?

It is not possible to definitively rule on the permissibility or prohibition of the surgery in the questioner's case, as this depends on the extent of the nose's disfigurement. If it has reached the level of severe disfigurement, then it is permissible to perform the surgery to restore it to normalcy, not for beauty. However, if it has not reached this extent, then it is not permissible. Ibn Uthaymeen, may Allah have mercy on him, said: "Cosmetic procedures are of two types: removing a defect, which is permissible, and increasing beauty, which is not permissible." The default ruling for such operations is prohibition, and this prohibition remains if there is any doubt about the condition reaching the permissible limit.
