The answer

A Qarin (one performing Qiran Hajj) needs to perform Sa'y only once, which suffices for both Hajj and 'Umrah. The evidence for this is that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and his Companions who performed Qiran did not perform Sa'y between Safa and Marwah except once, after the circumambulation of arrival (Tawaf al-Qudum). This is narrated by Muslim (1215) from Jabir ibn 'Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: "The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and his Companions did not circumambulate (perform Sa'y) between Safa and Marwah except for one circumambulation (Sa'y), his first circumambulation." 'Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) also narrated that those who combined Hajj and 'Umrah (the Qarins) performed Sa'y only once (her intention being the Sa'y). It is preferable to perform Sa'y after Tawaf al-Qudum, but it is permissible to delay it until the day of 'Eid after Tawaf al-Ifadah.
