Is it permissible for the 'Aqiqah to be with chicken, or is it not permissible except by slaughtering goats or camels?

Slaughtering chickens is not sufficient for the 'Aqiqah. It is stipulated that the sacrifice must be from camels, cattle, or sheep, as Al-Nawawi said: "The condition for a valid sacrifice in Udhiyah is that it be from livestock, which are camels, cattle, and sheep... and nothing other than livestock is sufficient." The 'Aqiqah is a Sunnah that is waived for those unable to perform it.
