Is it permissible to wear a wig that is affixed to the head and removed monthly, and to perform ghusl, wudu, and prayer with it, in order to alleviate the embarrassment of complete baldness resulting from an illness?

The fundamental principle is that wearing a wig is prohibited, based on the hadith: "Allah has cursed the woman who adds artificial hair (to her head) and the woman who asks for it to be added." However, some scholars have permitted it for a woman whose hair has completely fallen out, because in such a case, it is removing a defect, not adding beautification.

Similarly, hair transplantation has been permitted for those whose hair has fallen out, because it is a treatment to restore what Allah has created, and not a change to Allah's creation.

If a wig is worn, one should wipe over it during ablution (wudu) and remove it during the full ritual bath (ghusl). It is also forbidden to appear with it in front of men, as it is an adornment that must be concealed.
