Is it permissible to wear a wig for adornment at weddings to protect hair from damage?

Scholars have differed concerning the ruling on wigs. Many of them held the view that they are forbidden, even for someone who needs one due to baldness. Therefore, it is more appropriate that they not be permitted for someone who has hair. Hair can be preserved through other lawful means. Hence, it is advisable to stay away from wigs, for safety and as a precaution for one's religion. For as the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "A servant will not reach the level of the pious until he abandons what is harmless out of fear of what is harmful."
