How can God love me so that I may be among His righteous saints?

Allah Almighty has shown the way to His love for His servant in the Hadith Qudsi: "My servant continues to draw near to Me with supererogatory acts until I love him." So, if the servant adheres to the obligatory acts and increases in supererogatory acts, Allah will love him. Allah Almighty has also promised His love to whoever follows His Prophet and adheres to his Sunnah, as He says: "Say, [O Muhammad], 'If you should love Allah, then follow me, [so] Allah will love you and forgive you your sins.'" Furthermore, the servant must possess the qualities that Allah has stated He loves in their possessors, such as those who are ever-penitent, those who purify themselves, the patient, the doers of good, the just, and the pious. Whoever is characterized by any of these qualities may hope that Allah will love him.
