What is the ruling on undergoing cosmetic surgery for prominent ears, which a person is born with, whether it causes embarrassment and affects their self-confidence, or is solely for the purpose of restoring them to their natural position?

Cosmetic surgeries are permissible for those who suffer from congenital deformities or acquired defects, whether major or minor, as long as they are classified as a deformity that deviates from the normal creation.

This is because the goal is to restore creation to its natural state, not to alter Allah's creation. This is supported by the story of Arfajah ibn As'ad, whom the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, permitted to take a nose of gold after his nose was cut off.

Many scholars have issued fatwas permitting such operations, including the scholars of the Permanent Committee, Sheikh Ibn Baz, and Sheikh Ibn Uthaymeen, as long as the goal is to remove a defect or disfigurement that causes physical or psychological harm.

Therefore, there is no objection to correcting prominent ear defects to restore them to their natural appearance.
