The question

Is it obligatory for a Muslim to continue praying in a mosque where those in charge commit innovations (bid'ah) and errors in reciting the Qur'an, hasten in performing the prayer, and read a book containing fabricated hadiths, coupled with the fear of weakening one's faith or falling into shirk, or should one pray alone at home?

The answer

If the imam's errors, such as mispronunciation (laḥn) or rushing, do not invalidate the prayer, then it is necessary to preserve prayer in the mosque to gain the reward of congregational prayer, the reward of walking to the mosque, and to protect oneself from perdition. It is not permissible to abandon the congregation unless an alternative is available.

Maintaining congregational prayer in the mosque yields greater reward, better preserves one's religion, and keeps Satan further away, as the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "You must adhere to the congregation, for the wolf devours the stray sheep." The fact that they read a book containing weak hadiths does not justify abandoning the congregation.

However, if the imam's errors invalidate the prayer, such as mispronunciation in Al-Fatiha that changes the meaning, or rushing that compromises tranquility, then it is not permissible to follow him. In such a case, one should be keen to perform congregational prayer, even if it is at home.
