Is it permissible for a woman in a state of ihram to adorn herself for her husband with hair dye, makeup, and the like?

It is forbidden for a woman in ihram for Hajj or Umrah to beautify herself for her husband, for two reasons:

1. Adornment might arouse the husband and lead him to rafath (obscene talk or sexual intimacy), which is forbidden by the Almighty's saying: "So whoever has made Hajj obligatory upon himself therein [by entering ihram], there shall be for him no sexual intimacy, nor wrongdoing, nor disputing during Hajj."

2. If cosmetic products contain perfume, they are forbidden by consensus after entering ihram. If they are free of perfume, they are still forbidden according to the majority of scholars because they contradict the "dishevelment" (sha'ath) of the pilgrim, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Dishevelment: (means) unkempt," and his saying regarding the people of Arafat: "Look at My servants, they came to Me dishevelled and dusty." What further indicates this prohibition is that Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, reproached Fatimah, may Allah be pleased with her, for wearing dyed clothes and applying kohl after exiting ihram, and the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, approved of his action.

It should be noted that some types of makeup may be harmful, and one must avoid them if their harm is medically proven.
