The answer

Abandoning prayer is a grave danger. Sincere repentance is necessary, and one must adhere to it, for it is among the greatest of destructive sins, more severe than fornication, theft, drinking alcohol, and taking a life. Do not commit a sin and delay repentance, for that is like someone who drinks poison and awaits the antidote. You must avoid all sins, repent whenever you sin, and steadfastly adhere to Allah's law and obedience to Him. What aids in this is the company of the righteous, an environment of faith, constant remembrance [of Allah] and supplication, striving against the self, contemplating death and its terrors, and recalling Allah's wrath and punishment.
