Is one who abandons prayer considered a disbeliever, such that he must renew his Islam and utter the Two Testimonies, or is repentance and adherence to prayer sufficient?

Prayer is a great act of worship, and abandoning it is one of the gravest sins. Indeed, many scholars have considered it an act of disbelief that expels one from the faith. Therefore, the one who abandons prayer must hasten to sincere repentance, for the door of repentance is open, and Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful. Sincere repentance, according to the majority who do not consider the one who abandons prayer to be a disbeliever, involves making up for the missed prayers. This is the more cautious and more absolving approach, and it is the view of most scholars. As for those who consider him a disbeliever, his repentance is by performing the prayer, because his disbelief was due to his abstention from it.
