What is the ruling on women going out for recreation or sitting alone in restaurants and cafes, and does this contradict the Quranic command, "And abide in your houses," which necessitates staying at home unless there is a necessity, and is recreation considered a necessity? And does this remain permissible given the mixing of genders, the corruption of youth, and the spread of sins and music in those places, and is it obligatory for a committed Muslim to be present in places where sin predominates?

The default for a woman is to stay in her home, but she may go out for a need, such as learning or suitable work, or for recreation and visits, provided she avoids mixing with men and adheres to the hijab. It is impermissible for women to go out for recreation or to sit in restaurants and cafes where men, music, and sins are prevalent, because recreation for the purpose of window shopping is not a pressing need. Furthermore, a woman's going out is conditioned upon her husband's consent, and she is not permitted to go out to places he disapproves of. Her going out is prohibited if there is fear of corruption or fitna (temptation) for her. Being in a place of sin is impermissible for any Muslim, except out of necessity or a need such as enjoining good and forbidding evil.
