What does it mean to honor one's neighbor, and does that include hosting guests and sending them charity, even if they are not in need of it?

Honoring and being kind to neighbors is a sign of faith. Allah has commanded it in His Book: "{And worship Allah and do not associate anything with Him, and be kind to parents, and to relatives, and to orphans, and to the needy, and to the neighbor who is a relative, and to the neighbor who is a stranger, and to the companion by your side, and to the traveler, and to those whom your right hands possess. Indeed, Allah does not like those who are conceited and boastful.}" The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, emphasized this by saying: "Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, let him honor his neighbor." Honoring one's neighbor includes: being kind to them, not harming them, inquiring about their well-being, greeting them, visiting them if they fall ill, giving them gifts, hosting them generously, lending to them if they are in need, refraining from harming them, being patient with any harm they cause, congratulating them, consoling them, and attending their funeral after their death. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Jibril kept advising me about the neighbor until I thought he would make him an heir."
