Who is the guest that must be honored, and are companions and neighbors considered guests who have a right to hospitality?

Honoring a guest is an obligation, and its duration is one day and one night. Full hospitality is for three days, and anything beyond that is considered charity. The guest whose hospitality is obligatory is the traveler coming from another land, and he has the right to take his due from the host's wealth if he is not honored. As for a visitor from the same locality, feeding and honoring him falls under the general category of doing good, but he is not the guest whose honoring was made obligatory by the Prophet and who has a right to the host's wealth. The obligation of hospitality for a passing traveler applies equally to the inhabitants of villages and cities.
