What is the ruling regarding a wife remaining with her husband who sometimes prays and sometimes neglects prayer, knowing that he is of good character, dutiful to his parents, and benevolent towards his family and children? Is her obedience to him valid in matters other than prayer? What are the best means to make him adhere to prayer? Is it better for the wife to pray alone at its prescribed time, or to wait for her husband to pray with him in congregation?

The wife is advised to be patient with her husband and to counsel him with wisdom and good admonition, reminding him of the gravity of delaying prayer beyond its prescribed time, and to try to involve someone who can advise him. If he responds and becomes steadfast in prayer, then praise be to Allah. Otherwise, it is preferable for her to separate from him, but she is not obliged to do so. She has the right to remain and continue advising him and supplicating for his guidance. We also draw attention to the obligation of congregational prayer for men, and the preference for praying at the beginning of its time or delaying it for the congregation.
