Is it permissible to sell clothes that have pictures of animate beings in the form of cartoons?

If the images on clothes are indistinct or lacking parts without which life cannot exist, then there is no harm in them. However, if they are otherwise, it is preferable to avoid trading in them, because images on clothes are desecrated by wearing the garment. The intention behind buying or selling is usually the merchandise itself, not the images. The Shafi'is permit wearing clothes that have images due to their desecration, while the Hanbalis differed between prohibition and disliking (makruh) due to the hadith: "except for a design on a garment."
