How can a medical student organize their time to acquire religious knowledge and medical science, overcome the temptations of doubts and desires, and seek guidance on emulating scholars and beneficial books?
The questioner is advised to sleep early and wake up at the time of Sahar (pre-dawn) for night prayers (Qiyam al-Layl) and learning, to pray Fajr in congregation, and to continue learning.
He is also advised to emulate the Prophets, the Companions, and the righteous predecessors (Salaf al-Salih), acting upon His (Allah's) saying, exalted be He: "Those are the ones whom Allah has guided; so take their guidance as an example" and His saying: "And the first forerunners [in the faith] among the Muhajireen and the Ansar and those who followed them with good conduct - Allah is pleased with them and they are pleased with Him."
It is emphasized that salvation lies in following what the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and his Companions were upon.
He is advised to keep company with scholars who are concerned with spreading the Sunnah and to benefit from them, to read extensively books of Raqā'iq (heart-softening accounts) and Siyar (biographies), and to live with the texts of the two revelations (Qur'an and Sunnah) and the lives of the righteous predecessors.
He is advised to dispense with companions by reading these books, for they are a source of comfort and the best companion.
