The question

Is it permissible to use mediation to obtain a job in the public sector in order to avoid working in companies that deal with usury, knowing that the applicant possesses experience and competence, and there is someone who offered him assistance, and that employment is done through mediation, and he suffers from pains that prevent him from difficult labor, so how can he be sure that he has not taken the right of another, and is it permissible to perform Istikhara prayer in this case?

The answer

It is permissible to ask a person how they can help you obtain a job. If their help involves preventing potential injustice in an examination, then it is a permissible intercession (wasaṭa). However, if their help involves hiring you regardless of examination results and the competence of other applicants, then it is a forbidden intercession due to the injustice involved. If you know or strongly believe that the intercession is forbidden, then there is no place for Istikhara prayer.
