Is divorcing a woman for a minor sin considered an injustice to her? And is divorce—the most detestable of lawful acts—preferable to remaining with a wife who insists on committing sins, even if they are minor?

A husband should not resort to divorce for the slightest reason, as it is disliked when not needed, and it may reach the level of being forbidden due to the harms that result from it. Islamic law encourages keeping one's wife, even if there is some dislike, in accordance with the Almighty’s saying: "But perhaps you hate a thing and Allah makes therein much good," and the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "A believing man should not hate a believing woman; if he dislikes one of her characteristics, he will be pleased with another." Divorce is not always an injustice; rather, it may be better for both spouses if living together becomes impossible, as the Almighty says: "But if they separate [by divorce], Allah will enrich each of them from His abundance." A husband should strive to reform his negligent wife, but if she persists in her negligence, divorce may be better, especially if she is negligent in Allah's rights or is unchaste.
