Does the deceased remember his family and relatives in this world?

The souls of the deceased sometimes remember the living and ask about them. The Sunnah has indicated this, as in the hadith of Abu Hurayrah, where souls ask the newly deceased about the living and rejoice in him. In the hadith of Ibn Abbas, the souls of martyrs wish to inform their brethren that they are alive in Paradise so that they do not become averse to jihad. This is specific to the souls of believers. As for the souls of non-believers, they are preoccupied with torment. This does not mean that the dead know everything about the living unless Allah wills it. They learn their news by asking the deceased who died after them.
