Do the dead meet in their graves, and do they know the news of the people of this world, and if one of them dies and is buried, do they meet him, receive him, and learn from him the news of their families in this world?

Ibn Al-Qayyim spoke about the visit of the living to the dead, and he quoted Ibn Abd Al-Barr that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "There is no Muslim who passes by the grave of his brother whom he knew in this world and greets him, but Allah returns his soul to him so that he may return the greeting." And it is authentically established that the dead hear the knocking of the sandals of those who accompany the funeral. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, legislated for his Ummah to greet the people of the graves by saying: "Peace be upon you, dwelling of believing people," which indicates that the dead hear and comprehend. And reports have been transmitted successively from the predecessors that the dead know of the visit of the living to them and rejoice in it. He (Ibn Al-Qayyim) cited as evidence what Abu Bakr ibn Abi Al-Dunya narrated from Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "There is no man who visits the grave of his brother and sits by him but he (the deceased) finds comfort in him and responds to him until he stands up." He also narrated from Abu Hurairah that the deceased returns the greeting to those he knows and those he does not know. Ibn Al-Qayyim mentioned stories that indicate the dead's awareness of the living's visits. And it is established that the deceased finds comfort in those who accompany his funeral after his burial, and some of the predecessors recommended reciting the Quran at the grave, and Imam Ahmad approved of teaching the deceased in his grave.
