What should a girl do who wishes to wear the jilbab, which she sees as a protection for her, while her mother refuses that and insists on her wearing "fashionably modest" clothes, despite her knowledge that "there is no obedience to a created being in disobedience to the Creator"?

The mother does not have the right to prevent her daughter from wearing the hijab (definition), because it is an obligation upon every adult Muslim woman, as stated in the Holy Quran: "O Prophet, tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to bring down over themselves [part] of their outer garments." Therefore, it is not permissible to obey the mother in this act of disobedience, for "there is no obedience to a creature in defiance of the Creator." The hijab must be worn immediately, with patience, and the matter should be explained to the mother gently and wisely.
