Must a girl commit to not wearing the hijab in obedience to her sick mother, to avoid her anger and the deterioration of her health, or should she obey the command of her Lord regarding the hijab, even if that leads to harm to her mother?

Obedience to a creature is not obligatory when it involves disobedience to the Creator. Sins do not bring sustenance; rather, they cause deprivation of it. Obedience, however, is the cause of success and the rectification of affairs. Allah Almighty says: (And fear Allah that you may succeed) [Surat Al-Ma'idah 5:100]. A servant may be deprived of sustenance due to sin, and what is with Allah cannot be attained by disobeying Him. We advise the daughter to honor her mother and please her within the bounds of obedience to Allah, to encourage her to pray and recite adhkar (remembrances of Allah), and not to leave the house to avoid the hijab (definition) if her mother objects to it. If she is compelled to go out, she should try to convince her mother of the necessity of hijab and let her hear the words of Allah and His Messenger, and lectures from scholars.
