The answer

The types of Nusuk (pilgrimage rituals) are three: Ifraad (performing Hajj alone), Qiran (performing Umrah and Hajj together without exiting the state of Ihram), and Tamattu' (performing Umrah, then exiting Ihram, and then performing Hajj). The best of these is Tamattu', which is the view of Imam Ahmad, because the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, commanded his companions to switch to it. He also stated that if he had known in advance what he learned later, he would not have brought the sacrificial animal and would have made his first Ihram for Umrah, then assumed Ihram for Hajj on the eighth day. Nevertheless, the Hajj of one who assumes Ihram for any of these types is valid.
