What should I do, as I have repented of a sin then returned to it?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

For repentance, there are three conditions: abstaining from the sin, regretting it, and resolving not to return to it. A fourth condition is added if the grievance relates to the rights of others. If these conditions are met, Allah accepts repentance, as He Almighty said: "And it is He who accepts repentance from His servants and pardons sins." If a person returns to sin after repenting, he must renew his repentance, because Allah loves those who repent frequently, who repent from sin even if it recurs from them. It is reported in Sahih Al-Bukhari a hadith indicating that Allah forgives the servant who repents whenever he sins, even if the sin and repentance are repeated many times. This is not a license to commit sins, but its benefit is that returning to repentance after sin is better than its beginning, due to the persistence in supplicating to Allah that it entails.
