What should I do for Allah to be pleased with me after committing a major sin and repeatedly repenting and relapsing, and how do I return to the right path?
Allah Almighty accepts the repentance of a servant no matter how great their sin, as long as they have not reached the rattling of death in their throat (ghargara) or the sun has not risen from the west. Allah has promised the repentant forgiveness and mercy. Moreover, He has promised those who commit the greatest of major sins that He will transform their evil deeds into good deeds if they repent, believe, and do righteous deeds. The sincere penitent must follow up their evil deeds with expiating good deeds, and strive to strengthen this repentance by abandoning sins, showing sincere remorse, and resolving not to return to them, and by restoring any injustices if they exist. The penitent must not despair of Allah's mercy, and should occupy their time with obedience to Allah, increase in supplication and seeking refuge in Him, associate with the righteous, and stay away from places of evil.
