How should one deal with a person who bothers you in shared accommodation?

The rights of a neighbor in Islam are great and are summarized in three matters: showing kindness to him with whatever good one can, refraining from harming him, and enduring any harm that may emanate from him. Therefore, it is necessary to repel the neighbor's harms with kindness and advice, while observing appropriate times and circumstances. Harming a neighbor is among the major sins, and patience with an annoying neighbor is preferable, and forgiving him is a path to Allah's forgiveness and gaining the affection of the opponent. If he insists on his harmful behavior and all methods prove ineffective, then there is no blame in reporting him to the authorities to prevent his transgression.
