The question

How sound is the story of the Jewish man bewitching the Prophet Muhammad, may Allah’s prayers and peace be upon him? And does this incident align with the Prophet’s infallibility from Satan, along with mentioning the evidence and hadiths reported in this regard and their authentication?

The answer

Magic is real and has a reality to it. This is the belief of Ahl al-Sunnah wal-Jama'ah (the People of the Sunnah and the Community). It was mentioned in the Holy Quran that magic befell the Prophet of Allah, Moses. It is also authentically established in the Sunnah that the Jewish man Labid ibn al-A'sam performed magic on the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him. Imam al-Nawawi explained that magic has a reality and is actual, not merely vain illusions. He clarified that it does not diminish the status of prophethood nor does it impugn the infallibility of the Prophets in what they convey. Rather, the magic affected his body and outward limbs, not his mind or heart.
