Mount 'Ir is located south of Medina, eight miles from the Prophet's Mosque. It is a long mountain with a flat top. Mount 'Ir is not one of the mountains of Hell; what has been reported to that effect is weak in its chain of transmission. It falls within the boundaries of the sacred precinct of Medina, so hunting is not permitted there. There is no reported prohibition from the Prophet, peace be upon him, against spending the night on or around it. There is no objection to selling or buying land surrounding it if the seller owns it, nor is there any objection to climbing it.
