What is the ruling on hunting in the middle of Mount Ayr in Medina?
Source: FtawySummarized from the full answer at Ftawy · imported Sep 2, 2026
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, declared Medina a sacred precinct (haram). Therefore, no hunting is allowed within it, nor can its trees be cut down except for fodder, nor can its fresh grass be mown. The boundaries of Medina's sacred precinct are between Mount Ayr and Mount Thawr. The majority of jurists hold that both Ayr and Thawr are part of Medina's sacred precinct, and therefore hunting within them is not permissible. Whoever does so is sinful, but according to most scholars, there is no compensation (jaza') due from them.
