Is it obligatory for a woman to perform ghusl for prayer if semen is discharged from her without intercourse?
Source: FtawySummarized from the full answer at Ftawy · imported Sep 2, 2026
If semen is discharged from a woman, she must perform (ritual bath). The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, commanded women to perform ghusl if they see water (discharge), as stated in the narrated by Umm Salamah, may Allah be pleased with her. This is the opinion of the majority of scholars. Therefore, as soon as water (semen) exits a woman, regardless of whether it is little or much, ghusl becomes obligatory for her. Wudu (ablution) alone is not sufficient, unless it is a different type of fluid, such as madhy (pre-ejaculatory fluid).
