What is the ruling on giving a sum of money as a gift to someone who has memorized 10 or more Hizbs in a Quran memorization competition, if the participant's memorization is less than 10 Hizbs, and is it permissible to direct this money to the mosque?

The majority of scholars hold that competitions with a prize are not permissible except in cases explicitly mentioned in the text, which states: "There is no prize except in archery, or hoofed animals [races], or hooves [camel races]." The Hanafis disagreed, including the Sharia (definition) sciences among them. However, the Hanafis agree with the majority that in competitions where a prize is permissible, the prize must not come solely from the loser, as that would constitute gambling. As for paying an amount to the mosque by those who have memorized less than 10 Hizbs, based on their number, there is no harm in it, as it is not considered gambling. However, regarding giving charity on behalf of others and gifting them its reward, we advise against it.
