Filler injections used to plump up the face and remove wrinkles fall under the ruling of cosmetic surgery. Therefore, their use is permissible if they are for the purpose of removing a disfiguring defect that causes psychological distress, and if nutritional therapy or medications have not been effective, provided that they are generally safe from harm. The Islamic Fiqh Academy has permitted the removal of disfigurements that cause psychological or physical harm, with the necessity of consulting a trustworthy specialized doctor and observing the Sharia (definition) guidelines for treating women.
