What is the ruling on a traveler's fasting, when he intended to fast to make up for missed days outside of Ramadan, but it is now Ramadan, and he is not fasting, and he has a dispensation to break his fast?
If a traveler is permitted to break their fast during their journey, and then they fast with the intention of making up for a missed fast (qadaa'), or as a supererogatory fast (tatawwu'), or for any other reason, it is apparent that this fast does not count for either the qadaa' nor for the current Ramadan. This is the view of the Maliki school.
For the Hanafis, there are two opinions: one stating that it counts for the current Ramadan, and another stating that it counts for the qadaa'.
